Now I Lay Me Down to Sleep

catherine-

hey love=) i wanted to tell you about this organization called “now i lay me down to sleep” that our friend sara van tongeren told us about-she’s a pediatric social worker=) we have a brochure on it but they have a website too: www.nowilaymedowntosleep.org. it’s a non-profit organization that exists to assist families suffering an early infant death. professional photographers volunteer to take maternity pictures and also they come to the hospital to take pictures of the baby and the family around the time that the baby passes away. the local photographer in richmond for this organization is missy bane, who happened to take pictures last year of the children of employees on the labor and delivery unit where i work. we used those framed pictures to decorate our unit, and they are so good! while i obviously wish we didn’t have to call her for these particular services, i’m so excited to see how she captures you in and out of my belly. she is lucky to get to take your picture, and you are going to be so beautiful=)

I've just learned of your precious story. I believe in miracles and will be praying for you and your sweet Catherine. That no matter what, that little life inside you is held in His hands. He knows how long she'll be with you and I hope it's for a very long time, but if it is for only a short while, I pray it is everything it is meant to be.

Love,
Stephanie

We love y'all so much. Misty came downstairs crying, and i asked her why...she had just read these letters. I am amazed at the openness of y'alls love, and willingness to accept the reality of life in the context of God's love and faithfulness...reminds me of what Donnie said at y'alls rehearsal dinner about love being worth the increased pain it will cause when we are parted by death. That has always stuck with me...We join with you in the prayer Mom prayed, and Christ before her; "whatever brings you the most glory". Again, we love y'all...

Your love letters to Catherine have touched me so deeply. I have read and re-read them. And read them again. I have smiled. I have cried. Your love for Catherine Marie is perfect love. It is as though you have been a mommy a million times over... your strength, your harmony with God, your gift of words and truth and faith. Catherine is the most fortunate baby girl in the whole world to have you as her mommy... and to have her daddy, and Donna Marie, her grandma angel. The love that leaps off your pages is joy and warmth and freedom and happiness all combined... your love is the greatest torch with which to welcome Catherine to you, and to all of us. The technology of this world, and the "blogging thing", have brought strangers together in ways that we could not have imagined in other times. I am honored to know you, to know your sweet Catherine, and to pray for a miracle. You know that your miracle is Catherine... thank you for letting us know your miracle too. She has already brought me great delight and love... what beautiful design God has for Catherine will now be shared. Thank you for your sharing. Thank you for telling us Catherine's story. I will be praying each day for Catherine and for your family... and as Donna said so eloquently, God's glory.

I read about your blog on another blog tonight, and I am both heartbroken for you and amazed by your faith and great love. I had two miscarriages in 2007 (the second was twins) and what I wouldn't have given to hold those sweet little ones just once. I will be praying for you and checking in to your letters. You are a strong woman and I pray that God will wrap his arms around you and your husband through it all.

Katie,

My name is Anna Schaefer and I have become friends with Jennifer (Alexander) Mahon here in Louisville, KY. I have been catching up on your blogs and crying with you and thanking God for you testimony to his faithfulness. I am so glad you know about NILMDTS. My husband and I lost our sweet baby in May and were told about this organization. A very sweet photographer came to our hospital room and captured some precious moments for us. I am praying that God will make his path straight for you and that he would grant you his peace in these next days, months and years. He loves you, your husband and your little Catherine so much.

You are a mama, the very best mama Catherine could ever have.

Love,
Anna Schaefer
