when it rains it pours, apparently

you've been in surgery for an hour and a half. dr rodgers' nurse just came up to talk to us. we knew that wasn't good when he sent an actual person instead of just calling us every hour like they normally do. you had a part of your bowel that was stuck down in your pelvis, and he found four holes in it. so he cuts that part out and you get an ostomy. i can't even believe i'm writing that. that means he brings the end of your bowel where he cut up to your skin and creates a hole there and you get a bag attached to it and that's where you poop. are you kidding me? so it's temporary-the nurse said probably between 6-8 weeks. they're also going to give you another central line (an iv that goes further into your veins closer to your heart-it lasts longer) because you need TPN (total parenteral nutrition) because we still won't be able to feed you like normal or through your g-tube. i don't know how long we'll be here. i guess we find out more when he comes and talks to us.

we've found a fun little pattern with you-when we take you downstairs and you're in the room with us right before you go into surgery, you get really active and happy. remember with your diaphragm repair surgery how that's the first time you really woke up and looked at us? today you were laughing and talking so much. i got a video on my phone. we loved it. and the anesthesia resident was telling us how beautiful you are and how pretty your eyes are and rubbing your head-therefore we like him.

i'm so so sorry baby. i can't help but wish we hadn't decided to get you a g-tube. i love you.

I'm so sorry Katie, and Donnie. Maybe if I pray a little harder. I know when it rains it pours, but after that the sunshine appears. I have faith that Catherine will find a new home nurse. Also, have no regrets and know that you are doing the best for your child. Know that if you had not done this surgery you do not know what the other outcomes could have been but we do not have to think about that now do we. In the long run all of this is going to HELP Catherine although you may not be able to see that now.

I love you guys and will continue to pray.

I think I have commented before, but you are all in my prayers. Catherine is very blessed to have you as your parents. I am an RN, hoping to soon move to Richmond to be near my own little granddaughter. I think of you all often, especially when I am there visiting her, her mommy also reads your blog and cries with you as I do. I pray that Catherine will feel much better after this surgery, that the TPN will restore her nutrition, and that you all will soon be home again in Richmond. I know you are having a really hard time, but think about how relieved her little body is going to feel now that they have fixed this problem. Keep the faith, God knows your pain and is there for you. You are in the prayers of many. I wish I could help you in some way, I know you are so frightened every minute with your tiny miracle, may miracles continue for all of you.

Katie, I was so sad to hear this news, but hopefully Catherine will be feeling much better once she is through this. We will continue keeping her in our prayers.

Just as a side note, although I live in SC now, I grew up in downtown Marietta, GA. It's a great city! :)

As Kaye's daughter-in-law, I second everything she said. Sometimes I'll be shopping at Ukrop's and just hoping to see y'all. Maybe someday.

When I was little and in Sunday School one of the things my teacher made me learn was, "There is no spot where God is not." So He is with the doctors, He is in Catherine's tummy, and most importantly He is with y'all.

Peace and Prayers,
Abigail

Sorry I haven't checked in. I am sorry to hear that Catherine needed surgery again. I know that it is easy to second guess yourself, but you did what you felt was right, which in turn makes it right. Remember, you want what is best for her and you will make the best decision you can to get there. It is hard not to think about the worst, especially with all you have been through with Catherine. I will keep you guys in my prayers, as always.

apparently, for sure. there is a ginny owens song that I like called "this road". why this road for catherine...I surely don't know. but I'm praying for her healing and for her road..and the roads ahead. I keep picturing her as a 5-yr-old tom boy with pig tails showing off her scars. hang in there my friends.

Many prayers.

I know you are wishing you hadn't gone with the g-tube, but remember, you made the best decision you had with the best information you had at that time. Don't beat yourself up. You are a WONDERFUL mom!

To a loving family,
You don't know me and I don't know you but I read some of your posts. You are the best parents in the world and my heart pours out to you and your sweet baby girl. I'm 27 weeks right now and can not even fathom what you and your family are going through and the tough decisions that you have to make. Catherine will be a staple in my nightly prayers from this day on.
~Much love, Lea
